The primary legislation governing KYC/AML in Mozambique is the Money Laundering (Prohibition) Law nº14/2013 of 12 August.

Data protection regulations

Data protection in Mozambique is enforced via The Civil Code (Decree-Law no. 47344), the Penal Code (Law no. 24/2019, the Labour Law (Law no. 23/2007, of August 1), and the Electronic Transactions Law (Law no. 3/2017).

Institutions are required to obtain users’ consent before processing and transferring personal data. Users are entitled to the erasure of their personal data upon request.

Documents we verify in Mozambique

Mozambique National Identity Card

The national ID card issued by the National Directorate of Civil Identification is the primary KYC document in Mozambique.

Mozambique Voters ID

Voter IDs issued by Comissão Nacional Eleitoral (CNE) are required for voting in elections and can also be used as a KYC document.

Mozambique Passport

Passports issued by Immigration Service Department – Ministry of Interior may not be popular but are an acceptable KYC document.

Mozambique Driver’s License

Drivers licenses issued by Ministério dos Transportes e Comunicações can be used to verify the holder’s identity.
